Freaky Scarecrows

CREEPY SCARECROWS Photos of mannequins used as scarecrows (called kakashi) in rural Japan. Scarecrows were initially used to protect the farmer's rice fields. At first the Japanese hung old rags, meat, or fish bones from bamboo poles in their fields.Soon after they made scarecrows that looked like people. These were dressed in a raincoat made of reeds and a round straw hat that rose to a peak in the middle. Bows and arrows were often added to make them look more threatening. Today, lots of scarecrows are made of mannequins.(via Neatorama)
